COMTROL 1 Advanced
Hardware Course
SYSTEM SUPPORT SERVICES has added the Advanced
Hardware course to the Basic Hardware Maintenance course for COMTROL 1 systems. The
Advanced Hardware course is designed to build upon the COMTROL 1 Hardware Maintenance
course by providing more in-depth circuit analysis of the boards which make up the COMTROL
1 multiplexing system.
The course is custom-tailored for each site, covering only those modules which are
present in your system. The course is in an informal, interactive lecture format which
encourages discussion and promotes complete understanding of the covered material. Visual
aids are incorporated to reinforce concepts, and which serve as valuable reference
material later.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
- You will learn the functions of each circuit element in the COMTROL 1 system. Each board
will be presented at a block diagram level, and the schematic diagram will be used to
further delve into the functions of each circuit block. Detailed circuit analysis of each
block will be avoided. Emphasis will be placed on how each circuit element contributes to
the overall operation of the system.
- You will learn the messaging structure, backplane signals, and the operational logic of
the poll/response mechanism in greater detail than the basic maintenance course.
- You will learn the most common failure mechanisms of the major boards in the system, and
how to perform certain board-level repairs and upgrades.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The course is designed for engineers who are responsible for supporting the maintenance
personnel who service the COMTROL 1 equipment. Students must have a two year electrical
engineering degree or equivalent, and be familiar with digital electronics,
microcomputers, and communications technology.
REFERENCE MATERIAL
Students will retain and use the reference manual they receive in the Hardware
Maintenance course.
Each student is provided with a set of schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and other
pertinent information appropriate to the material being covered. Also, copies of all
visual aids will be provided.
PREREQUISITES
A prerequisite to this course is the COMTROL 1 Hardware Maintenance course.
HOW TO ENROLL
The course is available for on-site presentation only. To schedule a course or to
