Through years of experience and research, we have determined that most security software that utilizes the loop reconfiguration features of the COMPUTROL multiplexing system cannot tolerate large variances in the keepalive timer on the Fault Detect Module, part number 30-0016-3. We have found that variances of more than plus or minus 10 percent in the timers on the loop can cause problems.
Symptoms which can occur are spontaneous loop reconfigurations and multiple attempts at a reconfiguration before success occurs. That is why SYSTEM SUPPORT SERVICES always adjusts the timer to ±10% or less, even though there was traditionally no specified tolerance from COMPUTROL on this timer.
We have also discovered that this timer varies with temperature as well. Even if the timer is within specifications at 70°F, it can be off by as much as 20% at 110°F!
We have improved the temperature stability and tightened the tolerance of the timer circuit by employing temperature stable capacitors and metal film resistors in the timing circuit. The new circuit varies by less than ±2% from 32°F to 110°F.
The new hardware revision level of the board is G. This change will be incorporated into all 30-0016-3 Fault Detect Modules sent to us for repair. There will be no charge for the upgrade other than our normal flat rate repair charge.
It is recommeded that all 30-0016-3 Fault Detect Modules in service be upgraded, especially if some of the multiplexers are in harsh environments, such as outdoors or in unairconditioned equipment rooms.
To have SYSTEM SUPPORT SERVICES repair, test, and update the modules as necessary, call Customer Service for a Return Material Authorization number. Have available the part number of the module to be repaired and upgraded, and the quantity. We will quote a repair price and delivery turnaround at that time.
