| Product(s) Affected: | Serial Data Board |
| Model or Part Number(s): | 30-0166 |
| Release Date: | November 15, 1989 (Originally released by COMPUTROL) |
| Subject: | Hardware Revision E |
In COMTROL I systems, the Master Reset line on the Remote Chassis is not used, except on power-up. An R/C circuit on the 30-0001 CDI board generates a pulse on power-up to reset all FIMs in the chassis.
Noise on this line can cause spurious resetting of FIMs, causing loss of data. FIMs such as the 30-0166 Serial Data Board have their own local R/C networks to reset the card on power-up. Thus, the Master Reset line on the backplane is redundant, and a source of potential problems.
An Engineering change has been processed to disconnect the Master reset line from the backplane and ground the input to eliminate noise from spuriously resetting the FIM. The new hardware revision level of the board is Revision E.
It is recommended that all boards be upgraded as soon as practical. Because the change involves a hardware modification, it is recommended that the modules be returned to SYSTEM SUPPORT SERVICES for retrofit. The cost to update the hardware and fully test, align, and repair the unit as necessary is $ 370.00 per board.
To have SYSTEM SUPPORT SERVICES repair, test and update the modules as necessary, contact Customer Service for a Return Material Authorization number. Have available the part number of the module to be repaired and upgraded, and the quantity.
